SWE Stand With Ukraine

Updated: Jul 8, 2022

A Nightmare Begins

On February 24th, the world watched as Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine. A horrific sight for all to watch around the world, sparking protests and humanitarian action across the world to help support Ukraine. The brave nation has withheld the invasion from taking over with all the might and willpower of its people for weeks. They have proved to the world that they are a nation of strength and unity, capable of withholding "one of the largest and most powerful militaries in the world."

Students Ready To Help

Before UF entered spring break, students organized protests and fundraisers to raise awareness and support Ukraine.

Painting For Peace

SWE's On-Campus Outreach Chair, Jessica Goel, and Public Policy Chair, Anna Hueber, organized a fundraiser called Painting for Peace to support Ukraine in this dark time. Members of SWE, Take Action Florida, and the Ukrainian community on UF campus came together on March 3rd to participate in this fundraising event. In total, the fundraiser raised $250, all of which will go to UNICEF to provide aid to displaced people in Ukraine.

Слава Україні translates to Glory to Ukraine

Stand With Ukraine

Earlier that day, some members of SWE participated in the Stand With Ukraine Peaceful Demonstration at Turlington Plaza organized by the UF Ukrainian community. This demonstration raised awareness about the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the history of the tensions between the two nations, stories of loved ones in Ukraine, and ways that everyone can help support Ukraine.
