So what's all this talk about Team Tech? The Team Tech group is one of UF SWE’s design teams focused on partnering with a company to innovate, design, and create a project. Team Tech highlights the importance of teamwork and collaboration in engineering design processes in order to build a tangible product that the partnering company may use in the future. In addition, Team tech aims to equip their members with various new engineering skills to better prepare them for future internships and their career. "Ultimately, we hope to build the coolest project among those submitted to the WE Conference and win first place," says Robin Fintz and Vida Tonkova, this year's co-captains for team tech.
Robin and Vida joined Team Tech in 2019 and were immediately drawn to the idea and excited to start working on projects. After a while and through the pandemic, only Vida, Robin, and previous captain Ganna Voytseshko remained leading Vida and Robin to lead Team Tech together and want to show their fellow SWEeties how amazing it is.
For this semester, Team Tech is partnering up with UKG (formerly Ultimate Software)
to design a web application that will help workers avoid unsafe areas of their workplace. Robin and Vida describe how the group will be developing the app on scrum teams using the 'MERN stack' and will be incorporating the app with clip-on relocation devices and bluetooth sensors to detect dangerous airs. Sounds smart- I know right. "Our goals are to provide our members with an incredible hands-on learning experience and to build a product that can have an impact on real-world industrial practices," Vida and Robin comment.
So far, Team Tech has hosted a series of workshops along with other engineering student organizations covering a variety of topics, including JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, wireframes, and sprints. The team's captains are hoping that by the end of the project, team members will be able to lead the development of a web application.
Lastly, we asked Robin and Vida, "What are your hopes for the team tech group in the future?" where they said enthusiastically:
"We hope that the design team will continue growing and that we get #1 at the WE Conference every time we compete! We also hope that other SWEeties will be able to have fun with Team Tech! It really gives our members a great opportunity to make lasting friendships and enjoy what they’re creating."
Thank you Team Tech and keep up the good work!!!
