We can all agree that this year's presidential election was one of the craziest ones we've experienced yet...and one of the most important. Millions of Americans headed to the ballots to select their new president elect, President Donald Trump or Vice President Joe Biden.
To show the importance of voting and encourage others to exercise one of the most fundamental aspects of being a citizens, we asked SWE members to take a selfie showing that they voted. Here are the highlights:
FUN FACT: When did Women start to vote?
Surprisingly, New Jersey allowed women to vote from 1807...single women, that is. Married women were apparently represented by their husbands while single women voted regularly during elections. This was until men started dressing up as women and voting several times under the disguise. Because of this, the law was amended and voting rights were taken away from all women :(( .
We won them back nationwide in 1920 (black women had to wait for the 'Voting Rights Act of 1965' before all of our voices could be heard).
